This painting captures the exact second the viewer stumbles into something they were never meant to see. Four cows, mid-revel in the pastel dream world of Moon Mist, turn in unison, caught between delight and suspicion. It feels as though they were just having the time of their lives inside this sugary, East Coast–coloured universe, and now you’ve interrupted it. There’s joy here, but also ownership, as if this pastel, creamy world belongs to them and them alone. The stare is playful, protective, and just a little bit challenging, daring the viewer to prove they deserve to be here.
